The Chair of Minerals Industry Safety Risk Management was announced after extensive discussions between Anglo American CEO Cynthia Carroll, Queensland Premier Peter Beattie and Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson.

Carroll said the chair would provide expert safety advice to the company and help Anglo American establish leading safety practices across its international operations.

She also announced the appointment of UQ Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre director Professor Jim Joy to the newly created role, effective immediately.

The four-year agreement secures Anglo American’s relationship with the university that hosts some of the world’s leading academics in safety risk management in its Sustainable Minerals Institute.

“Anglo American’s decision to create a chair of minerals industry safety risk management is a reflection of our renewed focus on safety performance across our operations,” Carroll said.
