Written comments on the project’s comprehensive study report, which includes the agency’s conclusions on environmental impact and its recommendation for the implementation of mitigations, is due at its office in Halifax by May 9.

The report is available for public viewing through that time at its office and in Glace Bay and Sydney and can also be viewed online under registry reference number 63924.

Once the comment period is complete, the CEAA and province’s minister of the environment will review input and issue an environmental assessment decision statement.

The Donkin facility is being developed by Xstrata Coal Donkin Management.

The mine is expected to produce about 3.6 million tonnes annually for a projected 30-year lifespan.
