The inspectors came together from the Mine Safety Operations unit, Environmental Sustainability unit, Regulatory Audit and Investigations unit and the Emergency Management and Coordination team.

The program involved information sessions on changes to emergency management arrangements including the new Mine Sub Plan, and presentations from other agencies, including Fire and Rescue NSW who presented on their major structural collapse capability and equipment.

The program concluded with an exercise in which participants navigated an evolving mining “emergency” where members of the NSW Police Force and Coal Services Mines Rescue took the real world involvement into the scenario.

Participants were broken into syndicate groups and submitted information using the department's ACES system, remotely viewed by the exercise staff.

This session was also attended by Mine Safety Advisory Council chairman Carl Scully, who added insight into the political expectations in emergency situations.
