The company said it had commenced extraction of the second longwall block, following about a six month delay.

Resource Pacific blamed initial delays on industrial action, late deliveries of new continuous miners and shuttle cars and initial start-up issues.

Further delays were then experienced in December due to failure of a grout barrier associated with the excavation of a new ventilation shaft, resulting in water damage to roadways.

During the December quarter Newpac produced 89,000 development tonnes. Total sales of 124,000t included 47,000 saleable tonnes produced and 74,000t which were purchased.

The company said production and development activities are now expected to return to plan for the remainder of the year.
