A BHP spokesperson told ILN the port would resume normal operations following all safety checks now that Greenpeace had ended its illegal and dangerous protest.
The spokesperson said the Greenpeace vessel, the Esperanza, had left the port’s licensed area.
“As always, safety is our number one priority and we would like to thank Queensland Police, Maritime Safety Queensland and our employees for their safe and professional handling of the incident,” the spokesperson said.
ABC has reported that 10 Greenpeace activists are due in court next week because of their protests in north Queensland, which started with the failed attempt to shut down the Abbot Point Coal Terminal on Tuesday.
The four remaining protesters who had chained themselves to a coal loader at Hay Point reportedly surrendered to police last night.
