A NPC spokesperson told ILN this morning there were some delays and restrictions to coal loading yesterday but shipping movements were getting back to normal.
The source of the spill was a coal vessel berthed at the Kooragang Coal Terminal with recovery efforts concentrated on the area between the Kooragang No.3 and Kooragang No.4 berths.
Most of the oil has been removed through mechanical suction.
The spokesperson said the strong westerly winds, of about 30 knots, drove most of the spill into a corner of the Kooragang Basin.
He said the wind had been helpful but posed difficult conditions as the water was choppy.
The size of the oil spill won’t be known until the clean-up operation is complete.
Small deposits of an oily substance have been found on rocks at Walsh Point and along the North Arm at Stockton.
