Record year for Springvale mine

CENTENNIAL Coal has recorded increases in coal production and sales for the June 2002 quarter.

The company set a new quarterly sales record of 931,000 tonnes, with increases in both domestic and export sales contributing to the record.

Coal production from the company’s Clarence bord and pillar mine, and the Springvale longwall mine was up 27% and set new production and productivity records for both operations.

As a result of a successful tender offer, Springvale began supplying additional coal from July 2002 to the adjacent Mount Piper and Wallerawang power stations (owned and operated by Delta Electricity).

Centennial said this deal will significantly increase Springvale's contracted deliveries to Delta Electricity and lead to further improvement in Springvale's operating efficiencies and the utilisation of the mine's 3million tonnes per annum production capacity.

“Other sales initiatives, including the recently announced Tohuku "GreenCoal" agreement, are evidence of the support that Centennial Coal enjoys from its major customers and confirms the Company's status as a significant independent coal producer,” Centennial said in a statement.
