The third thoroughfare totals about 200km, starting from Qian’an, a point on the Datong-Qinhuangdao coal transporting artery, and terminating at the deep-water coal port at Caofeidian, running across north China’s Hebei Province.

Chinese national media said the first phase of the project was scheduled for completion by 2007 when the carrying capacity would reach 50 million tonnes. Capacity was projected to reach 100Mt at completion of the second phase.

The line’s coal-carrying capacity is expected to reach 200Mt by 2010.
