About 10 miners were evacuated from the CW Mining operation February 1 after MSHA inspectors discovered 130 degree temperatures and carbon monoxide levels of 30 parts per million, MSHA spokesperson Dirk Fillpot told the Salk Lake Tribune. No injuries were reported.
The affected section, which caused minimal threat to workers, was about 2000ft by 2000ft, Fillpot told the paper, and CW Mining spokesperson Charles Reynolds said the section was located about 7,000-8,000ft in. Reynolds said that while there will be short-term affects on production due to the now-sealed areas, he didn’t anticipate any long term issues.
All three portals of the Bear Canyon operation use room and pillar mining method. CW Mining is a subsidiary of the Davis County Cooperative Society (DCCS).
