Registration for the screenings, scheduled for August 5 and 6, begin at 7am each day. All attendees must bring photo identification and a completed resume to be considered, the agency said. Applicants will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

The recruitment effort will put mine inspectors and electrical personnel at MSHA locations in Mesa, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Topeka, Kansas; Helena, Montana; Rapid City, South Dakota; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Green River, Wyoming.

“We’re looking for qualified people, dedicated to MSHA’s mission, and those who want to end accidental injuries and fatalities in our nation’s mines," said agency acting administrator for mine safety and health David Dye.

“[We need] motivated professionals eager to help us continue to protect the mining industry’s number one resource – miners.”

MSHA said the results of the testing administered during the two-day event would be reported back to all of the applicants; those selected will enter the agency at a GS-9 level with a starting annual salary of $US42,000. All selected individuals will also be required to complete a two-year training program.
