The Brisbane-based subsidiary, like the Pittsburgh headquarters, tends to focus on high-end type work involving specialist analysis that a mining company may not have in-house.
Types of projects that fall under this heading include mine project evaluations, due diligence, independent technical reports, and expert witness work. This has been partly driven by clients requiring independent expert views that allow a more prudent evaluation of mining projects, the company said.
JTB also offers a broad range of other consulting including feasibility studies and exploration consulting and has diversified into several growth areas. These include coal-bed methane, synthetic fuels, evaluations of transportation and dispatching infrastructure, valuations, new project development, litigation support, and property acquisitions/sales.
“Strong coal prices are shifting Boyd’s work from distressed financial situations towards expansion projects, acquisition opportunities, and fuel supply strategies,” the company said.
Increased globalisation of the mining sector has brought business from regions in Asia including recent work in China, Indonesia, Mongolia, India and New Zealand.
