Of 402,186 respondents, 40% of those from NSW are strongly opposed to a relaxing of restrictions on CSG extraction.

This compared to the 29.6% from South Australia and 29.9% from Western Australia who oppose the move.

Voters in WA and the Northern Territory are the most supportive of a freer legislative arena for CSG companies.

Overall, 34.5% of voters disagree, 9.31% agree and 16.4% are apathetic.

What should come as no surprise to the industry is the percentage of Greens votes who disagree with the premise.

A high 54.7% of voters who aligned themselves with the Greens disagreed, compared to the 25.6% of voters aligned with the Coalition who disagreed.

What is a surprise is that 9.19% of Greens voters are neutral on the issue.

Across the age divide, voters were spread fairly evenly – with less than 10% between the 18-34 group and the 55-plus voters.

Those over the age of 55 were the most strongly opposed to CSG, with 39.3% strongly disagreeing, while the Baby Boomers also numbered the most in agreement, with 11.4% agreeing with the statement.

The numbers are spread evenly across metropolitan, regional and rural voters.
