According to a report late last week from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Twin Pines in Jasper and Rock Mountain Mining issued federally-mandated Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letters to employees on September 17.
The mines will lay off 60 and 53, respectively, beginning November 11.
According to the report, Twin Pines is furloughing because it is ceasing operations.
Neither operator made public comment on the cuts.
The layoffs compound already bad news for the state of Alabama. In July, Drummond issued pink slips to 425 of its miners at the Shoal Creek operation in Oakman.
Those furloughs were scheduled to commence September 9.
