Bathurst has also lodged consent applications to establish the Escarpment mine at the project, chief executive Hamish Bohannan said.

“We are delighted to have appointed a local engineering company that has the proven expertise to build the plant and facilities required, while also creating additional employment opportunities on the West Coast,” he said.

Bathurst expects the Buller coal project would create about 225 jobs and $NZ30 million a year in salaries and wages for the town of Westport and the wider West Coast region, including Greymouth.

Brightwater is an engineering, design, construction, project management and service company with fabrication capability.

It has offices in Auckland, Nelson, West Coast South Island, Melbourne, and Perth and employs more than 250 staff involved in turnkey supply projects, from process conception and design through to manufacture, site preparation, construction, installation and commissioning.

The company recently constructed and commissioned Solid Energy’s new washplant at Stockton and designed and built the materials handling section for Pike River Coal.
