The appointments come as Delta SBD embarks on a $15 million capital growth program to increase future growth opportunities and extend its relationships with key clients Anglo American Metallurgical Coal and Whitehaven Coal.

Mena has more than 25 years experience in the steel mining industry and has held senior operational and management roles with Bluescope Steel and BHP Collieries.

He is now responsible for all aspects of the company’s operational activities in NSW.

Jackson has more than 38 years experience in the coal industry, internationally and nationally and has held a variety of operational and corporate positions including mine mechanical engineer and general mine manager.

He is responsible for expanding Delta SDB’s Queensland region and fit-for-purpose equipment division.

Delta SBD’s new equipment includes one Joy 12CM30 bolter continuous miner; one Bucyrus FBL60 and two Bucyrus FBL15 diesel loaders; two Bucyrus 55 tonne, 2 metre hydraulic power-assist chock trailers; and one Industrea 130t diesel shearer transporter.

Most of the new equipment will be progressively delivered by the end of the year.

Earlier this month Delta SBD clinched a drivage development contract at Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri mine, marking the contractor’s first drivage deal outside the Illawarra region.

The Narrabri contract will give Delta SBD access to two loaders and two personnel transporters for control and operation of the Narrabri twin miner development panel.

The contract, to commence this month, will require 60 new employees.

It means Delta SBD will increase its number of development units for FY2012 from four to six.
