He replaces Don DeFosset, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Hyland, who earned his bachelor’s and MBA degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, was most recently president of US Fleet Management Solutions for Ryder System. In addition to his vast experience in manufacturing, logistics, sales and operations management, he also served as president of the industrial products segment of Textron, as well as president of the engineered products group (flow control division) for Tyco International.
Walter Industries’ board said in a statement that Hyland’s past experience was especially important given the pending completion of its acquisition of Mueller Water products in a $US1.9 million deal.
A significant international coal supplier, Tampa, Florida-based Walter Industries and its subsidiaries reported $US1.5 billion in revenues for 2004.
