The newly formed position will strengthen the increased focus on education and training by the minerals sector’s peak representative body. Lane’s responsibility encompasses an education program for schools, careers awareness programs, the new Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy and growing interaction with tertiary education and training providers.

Lane is currently director of strategic industry initiatives with the Queensland Department of Employment and Training and takes up his position with the QRC in April.

“Greg brings to the QRC a very strong background in vocational education and training with his high-level experience in joint government and industry initiatives such as the Mining Industry Skills Centre and the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy,” QRC chief Michael Roche said.

He said Lane understood how to translate government education and training services into tangible outcomes for industry.

“The QRC has laid out a challenging agenda to address the skills shortage and under Greg Lane’s stewardship we are looking forward to continuing our work with governments and communities to give more Queenslanders the opportunity to work in the state’s leading industry sector,” Roche said.
