Opencut mines produced 12.3Mt, on par with production in March 2005.
Coal exports totalled 11.7Mt in March, with coking coal making up 8.5Mt and thermal coal the rest. Of the 2.2Mt of coal used within Queensland, 2Mt was used for power generation.
Gladstone shipped 4.5Mt of coal, followed by Dalrymple Bay which exported 4.1Mt and Hay Point 2.2Mt.
Employment numbers continued to climb with 18,504 workers employed during the month compared with 15,255 the previous March.
Japan was the state's main coal export destination taking 4Mt of coal during March, followed by Korea and India taking 1.4Mt and 1.2Mt respectively.
