The awards, part of the Queensland Resource Centre's Women in Resources Action Plan (WRAP), seek to recognise women who have made an outstanding contribution to the resources sector.
WRAP is a program designed to increase the number of skilled female workers in the resources sector. As well as the awards, QRC arranges networking events for women and recognises companies that are implementing initiatives to attract and retain women.
Last year's winner of the Resources Award for Women, Thiess executive mining manager Simone Wetzlar, received acknowledgement not only for her own work as a woman in the industry, but for her work to develop better opportunities for other women.
Wetzlar helped to increase the proportion of women at the Mount Keith Nickel Mine to more than 20% by changing the culture of the project to discourage bullying and other unwelcome behaviour.
The 2008 Resources Awards for Women will be presented at QRC's annual International Women's Day breakfast, held on Friday March 7.
