ABB will supply complete electrification and automation solutions to maximise productivity, monitor energy use and minimise energy consumption.

The new mine is one of Vale’s major investments in Africa and will be built at Moatize, Tete province. When completed, the mine will produce 11 million tons per annum over 35 years.

Vale previously announced its intention to spend $444 million in 2009, out of a total capital expenditure budget of $1.398 billion for the development.

Construction of the entire facility will take an estimated 36 months, with ABB’s portion of the work expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
