When securing Springvale’s planning consent, Centennial committed to significantly improve the quality of water discharged and this commitment was incorporated into its conditions of consent, according to Centennial Coal executive GM external affairs Katie Brassil.

“We can now get on with the task of constructing this important piece of regional infrastructure,” she said.

Brassil said the approval would allow Centennial and Energy Australia to build a water treatment facility that would enable Springvale to exceed the water quality compliance conditions required by our consent.

“Importantly, the SWTP underpins both the future operations of Springvale and Mt Piper power station, secures over 600 local jobs and provides energy security for 15% of NSW’s energy needs,” she said.

As well as the Springvale Water Treatment Project the PAC also approved two modifications that were intrinsically linked and supported the SWTP.
