The company's procurement spend is up 73% since the program was launched in 2019.
Nyrstar Australia vice-president Dale Webb said the company was focused on ensuring the local economy benefited.
"Increasing our local procurement spend is a crucial priority for our operations and it has been exciting to see our Local Business Priority Program continue to grow," he said.
"We have many longstanding relationships and our local suppliers have built up detailed knowledge of our site.
"Each are valued business partners and critical to the ongoing success of our operations."
One of those partners is Lynch and Saracino Concreting, a business that has operated out of Port Pirie since 2010.
It is one of several local businesses at Nyrstar's Port Pirie, South Australia plant completing maintenance work as part of its 55-day planned shutdown.
Lynch and Saracino Concreting co-owner Ryan Saracino said as a direct benefit of its work with Nyrstar the company had put on two casual employees and engaged more local contractors.
"Being a local Port Pirie business has meant we can be flexible and responsive in our partnership with Nyrstar, which has been a great advantage," Saracino said.
"Employing two new workers as a result of the business we've received from Nyrstar is a great benefit to those individuals to grow their careers, to support their families and the local economy."
Nyrstar operates in Port Pirie and Hobart, Tasmania producing lead, silver, zinc and other materials.
