Kingsgate gets pumping at Chatree

Water to eventually be repurposed for local agricultural use

Chatree is gradually being brought back to life. It was put on care and maintenance in 2017 when the then-Thai government banned gold mining.

In March the Thai authorities gave Kingsgate the greenlight to reopen the operation.

The first order of business was to bring Plant 2 back into operation. That plant is running at above nameplate.

The water in A Pit North will initially be pumped to other water storage facilities at the mine.

However, Kingsgate's Thai subsidiary Akara Resources brokered a community agreement under which the water would be repurposed within the local area for agricultural use during the dry season.

The dewatering works have begun.

While mining operations could have run for six months before nearing the existing water level, the dewatering efforts will ensure a continuity of operations in A Pit.

Kingsgate executive chairman Ross Smyth-Kirk said the company's operations remained "business as usual" in Thailand as it worked towards the full restart of mining operations.
