The guidelines are designed to be used in conjunction with the 1999 JORC code, which provides minimum standards for the public reporting of all mineral resources and reserves to the Australian investment community.
The guidelines were prepared by the New South Wales Coalfields Geology Council and the Queensland Mining Council.
The document was created to outline the methodology to reflect best industry practice, and should be followed when estimating the quantity and quality of inventory coal, coal resources and coal reserves.
It also provides guidelines for reporting to government and other non-public organisations and can be used for preparing supporting technical documents.
The guidelines are broad in nature to accommodate the wide variation of Australian coal deposits, in terms of rank, quality and geological environment.
The guidelines are available from the JORC web site or click on www.jorc.org/pdf/coalguidelines.pdf to go direct to the document.
