The president of the Queensland Resources Council, John Pegler said Roche was an ideal choice to extend the direction and style adopted by the QRC over the last two years and to build on the excellent platform established by Johnston.
“Mr Roche is joining a dynamic organisation that has won an admirable reputation for its positive contribution to public policy formulation in the interests of the Queensland economy and communities,” Pegler said.
Roche is returning to Queensland after nine years with the Australian Stock Exchange in senior management positions; the most recent as executive general manager, Market Services.
He also headed up the ASX’s Strategic Planning, Marketing and Corporate Relations Division after working for three years as its chief economist and head of strategy.
Prior to his private sector appointments, Roche served as deputy director-general of the Queensland Cabinet Office and chief of staff to the Queensland treasurer.
“An economist, Mr Roche brings a wealth of policy development experience to the QRC and is joining the organisation at a particularly exciting time of expansion in the Queensland resources sector,” Pegler said.
Roche will build on the QRC’s agenda, covering key issues such as health and safety, education and training, industry policy, environmental stewardship, community relations and infrastructure.
