“[Dorchester’s] Ivel Plant is strategically located in the heart of central Appalachia and provides Enserco with an excellent competitive position as we strengthen our customer base and increase our physical coal sales throughout the US,” coal marketing and trading managing director Jeffrey Price said.
“In addition, we will have a greater opportunity to serve international markets through more economical transportation options to ports in the east and Gulf Coast.”
Dorchester officials were satisfied with the agreement as well, highlighting Enserco’s experience, marketing capabilities and customer rapport.
Dorchester Coal acquired the rights to Ivel, a 650-ton per hour capacity facility located in Floyd County, last year.
The plant, which can process up to 250,000t per month, has a 120-rail car, four-hour load-out on the CSX rail line as well as truck delivery capabilities.
Enserco will primarily target the 12,500 British thermal unit, low-sulfur market segment via company owned and third party production originating from local mining operations.
Output would also include stoker quality coal, officials said.
Enserco emerged as a western US coal marketer in June of last year and was first to export Powder River Basin coal from the Ridley Terminal in British Columbia, Canada earlier this year.
It recently added Illinois Basin and central Appalachian sourcing, transport and storage to its portfolio.
