“A power shovel was traveling up a ramp and rolled back, striking a pickup truck,” a US Mine Safety and Health Administration spokeswoman told ILN of the 12.40am incident in Campbell County, Wyoming.
“One miner in the truck was killed, with another trapped in the truck.”
Campbell County sheriff Bill Pownall told the Associated Press that the victim, 24 year old Jacob Dowdy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mike Lewis, 38, was taken to Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
He was listed in good condition Friday, the AP said, and MSHA also confirmed that the second miner did not receive serious injuries.
Dowdy’s death is the 13th in US coal in 2013.
MSHA has launched an investigation into the incident.
