Carrington hot spot causes another derailment

A COAL train derailment will be investigated after a wagon came off the tracks at Carrington, New...

An empty coal train de-railed at about 2.20pm on Wednesday near the Robertson Street level crossing.

The spokesman for the Australian Rail Track Corporation said a crew certified the train was cleared shortly before 4pm.

This is not the first time this has happened at the Robertson Street crossing.

Last December, an empty train was reportedly being shunted - in reverse - for storage when it was wrongly put onto a track heading towards a level crossing over Robertson Street.

The train passed a catch point, a trackside device designed to deliberately derail trains to stop them causing public danger.

The catch point may have also been the cause of the most recent accident.

Investigations will take place in coming days to determine the exact cause of the incident.

It was reported that no damage was done to the rails, and normal thoroughfare has resumed.
