Special recognition was also given to four individual employees for their efforts and achievements in mine safety and community work.

Gary Frampton of East Bank, West Virginia, was awarded the state's top individual honour, the annual Coal Safety Leader.

The four mines that received awards included Aracoma Coal’s Cedar Grove mine, Bandmill Coal’s Tower Mountain surface mine, Mammoth Coal’s Plant and River loadout and the Republic Energy mine.

Individual winners were Jeff Ellis for Alpha in the Southwest region, Chuck Barton from Brook Runs South’s Horse Creek mine and Henry Ruiz from the Twilight mine.
