The agency posted two information packets to its website this week for download by all US mines, the first being a task-training plan addendum to aid mines in the development of its Part 48 modifications.
Operations using the addendum should modify plans as necessary and submit the details to the local MSHA district manager.
The regulators also released the Atmospheric Monitoring Systems Operator's Training Guide intended to assist operators in conducting training and annual retraining for operators of atmospheric monitoring systems. The publication can also be used for the training of those workers monitoring carbon-monoxide sensors, it said.
Under the new federal rules, made effective December 31, 2008, there are requirements for US mine operators to submit training-plan modifications and perform AMS operator task training.
Aside from the website, MSHA can be contacted by mail with requests for information at the national Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beaver, West Virginia, or email sent to MSHADistributionCenter@dol.gov.
