NLT network gains approvals

NLT Australia is ready to take its Northern Light Digital Network underground after gaining intri...

Staff Reporter

The two-way Northern Light Digital Network is a wireless local area network system that is the first ever to offer underground miners full communication ability with surface staff or rescue personnel in the event of an accident.

NLT Australia said the IS approval of the network was a key element of its digital mine strategy.

The system is compatible with its Northern Light Digital Messenger Cap Lamp and Tracking applications.

The Messenger Cap Lamp is an integrated communications device that enables real-time, two-way text messaging. Tracking enables mines to improve safety and productivity by knowing the location of assets and personnel in real time.

NLT customer relations and marketing manager Leigh Haight said the underground digital network creates a multitude of possibilities for Australia's coal mines.

"Wireless links and products are commonplace on the surface and in our homes, but imagine the possibilities in the underground," Haight said.
