Emerald project kicks off housing ease for miners

QUEENSLAND developer Vivendi Homes is aiming to ease the chronic housing shortage facing Australi...

Vivendi, which focuses solely on housing in Australia's booming mining and energy communities, is planning to roll out a series of housing projects around Australia designed specifically to provide housing for miners and people in the mining support industry.

The Emerald project will support 70 new homes at six sites.

"The booming local industries, such as coal mining and cotton, have already caused the population to grow past 17,000 and is heading fast towards 20,000. It is important that we move quickly to support this growth," Vivendi managing director David Brown said.

Brown said his company's structural insulated panel system, VPS, was considerably faster than other methods, enabling the company to respond quickly to demand and be less reliant on "traditional housing trades and tradesmen which have come under pressure as the housing boom continues".

Privately owned Vivendi Homes has projects underway or planned in Blackwater, Chinchilla, Moura and Mount Isa with projects at Chinchilla, Mackay, Bundaberg and Nebo soon to be completed.

It is also scheduled to commence operations in Western Australia's booming Pilbara region, including the mining boom towns of Karratha and Exmouth.

Vivendi is also well advanced in plans to expand operations to Geraldton, the gateway to WA's Mid-West region, and Perth.
