The Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union’s Industry Safety and Health Representatives issued directives at around 6am on Tuesday to shut down the mines on concerns BMA’s two-week-old changes to its fatigue management policy created an unacceptable risk.
But the State Mine Inspectorate of Queensland’s Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation revoked the ISHR directives, and work resumed by 1:30pm that day.
A DEEDI spokesperson told ILN the department recently stated it was reviewing BMA’s fatigue management plan.
BMA mainly hosts open cut coal operations in the state but also operates the Broadmeadow punch longwall mine and the Crinum Underground mine.
