Oxenbould most recently worked at the Infrastructure Coordination Unit at the NSW Premier's Department, where he was responsible for the facilitation of infrastructure coordination throughout the state. He also had extensive experience in the maritime environment as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy.
“The Hunter Region is recognised as the heartland of the state’s economy and the port is the key facilitator of this wealth,” Oxenbould said.
“I am looking forward to taking a hands-on role in the future direction of the Port of Newcastle, having been a keen observer of the port and the Hunter region’s dynamic growth during my time with the Premier’s Department. I have watched the port move from strength to strength over the past five years and the boards has provided a very strong foundation for me to work with into the future,” he added.
Port Corporation chairman Wilton Ainsworth said the port was entering its next phase of growth after having undergone significant change and expansion over recent years.
“There are a number of major projects currently under negotiation which will benefit from the skills Chris will bring,” he said.
