Five deaths in China

POISONOUS gas killed five villagers last week in a coal mine in southwest China's Yunnan Province, said the government of Fuyuan County in Qujing City on Friday.

Staff Reporter

The five victims, four brothers and one fellow villager, were found dead in the underground water of a coal mine in Dahe Village after trying to win coal on Tuesday night. The mine was full of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide at the time, causing their deaths, according to sources.

The five villagers had illegally dug the mine themselves. The local government had searched the area for other illegal mines.
