ResTech will combine the skills, competencies, knowledge and diversity of Australian power and electronic products and services provider Ampcontrol, and the intellectual vitality and expertise of the University of Newcastle.

Initially employing five staff members on an ARC funded Power Electronics project, the new company will operate from the University of Newcastle’s campus at Callaghan.

ResTech will provide research and development capabilities in power and systems engineering, power and industrial electronics, as well as green technology. Research consulting will be carried out for OEM’s, industry end users and government offices. External training will be provided for technology users, professional and academic clients. Overseas collaboration will be encouraged and sourced.

“The pooling together of two differently evolved disciplines of engineering intellect and resources will produce very exciting outcomes,” said Ampcontrol CEO Dr Alan Broadfoot.

The ResTech facility will be opened by the minister for the Hunter Michael Costa early next month.
