Davis reports to group executive of Powder River Basin Operations, Ian Craig, who formerly directed the company's Australian operations.
Davis recently served as general manager of the Moura mine in Queensland, which was part of the Australian subsidiary that was sold by Peabody in January 2001. Prior to this position, Davis held a number of management positions within Peabody Resources and other Australian mining organisations, including general manager of the Warkworth mine in New South Wales.
Davis began his career in 1974 as a mining engineer, having graduated from the University of New South Wales with a bachelor of engineering degree in mining.
The August 2002 acquisition of the mine and coal resources from Mirant Corporation marks a return by Peabody to Australia, where the company operated for much of the past decade. The mine is expected to produce 1.3 million metric tonnes per year in 2003.
