Coppabella produced 915,000 tonnes run of mine coal in the June quarter, slightly lower than the same period in 2006.

“This was a very good result as the mine experienced several rain events during the quarter and lost over nine production days due to wet haul roads,” the company said.

ROM coal production for the 2007 financial year was 3.7 million tonnes, about 11% higher than the previous year.

At Moorvale, ROM coal production progressively increased in line with forecasts over the year, with 669,000t produced in the June quarter. For the full year, Moorvale produced 1.6Mt ROM.

With 55 ships now anchored off Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and loading delays of 28 days, Macarthur predicted its sales for FY2008 would continue to be impacted.

During the quarter, railings to Abbot Point commenced to help offset the throughput problems being experienced at DBCT.

In addition to infrastructure issues, coal producers have received significant cut backs in export allocation through DBCT for the balance of 2007.

An independent review of the Goonyella coal chain is due at the end of July 2007, which Macarthur hopes will identify options to maximise throughput in the short and long term.
