The Shelby County Commission said it was expecting to receive a proposed agreement from Alabaster-based Jesse Creek Mining regarding the plan, which involves extracting coal from beneath a section of County Road 270.
The road serves a few individual landowners but is a point of access from the western part of the county into the Cahaba River wildlife management area.
During mining, travelers will be able to use County Road 260, which runs parallel to Road 270.
The agreement will ensure that County Road 270 returns to a county-approved state after the mining project is complete.
The company will be required to pay a bond to ensure the road is restored to county standards.
