The newly appointed management committee, led by interim chairman Richard Chappell, said it is looking forward to working with mining companies and project proponents on behalf of Rockhampton’s businesses.

“The Resource Industry Group is here to give back to the Rockhampton Region,” Chappell said.

“We will not lose sight of our goal – to support local businesses to engage with the resource sector and support mining and industry clients through our local capacity and capability.”

The Resource Industry Group wants to assist Rockhampton businesses to develop their offerings into useful and competitive industry options, Chappell said.

“The Rockhampton region has plenty of successful mining and resource industry suppliers, and as new projects progress, that number will grow with the support and stewardship of the Resource Industry Group,” he said.

“With local businesses like SMW Group having recently won the Queensland mining contractor of the year award, the time is right for Rockhampton to step forward with true industry representation.

“Our region is ideally placed to be a mining and transport hub, and the Resource Industry Group aims to get the Rockhampton region noticed as a quality supplier to industry.”
