QGC's $20.4B plant commissioned

The facility, called Train 1, was built in partnership with BG Group (owners of QGC) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation. It is part of the larger Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) plant, which is the first site in the world to turn gas from coal seams into LNG. The plant started construction in 2010.

The ceremony was attended by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and federal Industry and Science Minister Ian Macfarlane, who were given a tour of Train 1.

QGC intends to expand the project further with the start-up of Train 2 in the third quarter of 2015.

During 2016 the company expects that the site’s production will plateau at around eight million tonnes per annum of LNG.
