State Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training spokesperson Leslie Fitzwater confirmed to ILN that the 43-year-old contract miner, whose name was not released, was working at the Silver Oak operation in Boone County when he came into contact with an energized electrical circuit.

“[He] suffered first, second and third degree burns on his upper body,” she said.

“He is in a critical but stable condition.”

The WVOMHST has commenced an investigation into the cause of the incident.

A request for more details, as well as the mine’s current operations status, from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration was not returned by press time.
