The system - from Australia's Mine Site Technologies - will see all crew fitted with an Integrated Communications Cap Lamp with a PED receivers and RFID tag to work with the TRACKER system.

A further 120 self-contained tags will be fitted to underground diesel vehicles and 18 read beacons will compete the system.

Moranbah North management said the 442 ICCL units were ordered in a bid to increase safety of crews at the mine and vehicle management.

Also of importance to the mine was the lightweight nature of the ICCL's, and that the PED and Tag coming as one unit.
