According to local newspaper the New Philadelphia Times Reporter, the man, whose name had not been released as of press time, was about two miles into the operation at the time of the incident and was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
Rosebud has not yet released a statement about the accident. A request for comment and information from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration by International Longwall News was not immediately returned.
According to MSHA records, Rosebud Mining holds only one active mine in the state. The bituminous operation, Tusky, is owned by Cliff Forrest of Pennsylvania-based Rosebud Mining and produced just under 450,000 tons last year with no NFDL injuries or fatalities.
