The Nebraska company also saw 1190 loaded coal trains leaving the SPRB last month, beating its previous record of 1174 loaded trains set the month prior.
"Our investments in the Joint Line and throughout our coal network are paying dividends in terms of our coal train velocity and throughput," energy vice president and general manager Doug Glass said.
He added August 10 was a single-day record for the company when 50 trains were loaded. The company’s previous record of 46 trains was set on November 29, 2007.
Records were also set last month for the Union Pacific/BNSF Joint Line. These included the loading of 2197 trains, beating July’s records of 2136 trains, and an August 16 Joint Line milestone of 81 coal trains, surpassing 80 trains on November 4 last year.
Additionally, the two had a daily average 70.87 loaded trains on the Joint Line in August, jumping over the previous record from November 2007 of 70.53 trains.
Compared to the same period of time last year, UP said it has loaded 5.8% more trains, or 476, in August.
Throughout the month, the Joint Line reported a 4.5% increase over 2007 to 698 loaded trains.
