The unit will work with the Mine Safety Advisory Council to offer education and assistance programs to the state’s mines.
According to the NSW Mine Safety Update, the programs will range from one-on-one assistance through to workshops for minesites that require improvement on specific hazard management or general systems, to broader group presentations for management, technical specialists, unions and check inspectors.
The programs will support industry standards, covering consultation, contractor management, fatigue management, developing and implementing a health management plan, management of musculoskeletal disorders, and safety incentive schemes.
All the unit’s programs will be developed in line with recommendations from the Wran Mine Safety Review and the Mine Safety Advisory Council’s Digging Deeper research report.
