Last year, Longwall Associates offered a promotional giveaway of the Yamaha by mailing out keys to all US and Australian personnel. Key holders brought the keys to the Las Vegas show and tried the ignition of the ATV. While the response was excellent, the winning key holder never emerged. After the show in an effort to locate the winner, the companies invited remaining key holders to try their luck at the facility in Chilhowie, Virginia to no avail.
In a second attempt to give away the ATV, another promotion was launched at Longwall USA 2001. Contacts in the US and Australia were sent ballots which were brought to the show and put into a drawing pool.
The winner was drawn by John Murphy, of University of Pittsburgh and chairman of the Longwall USA Executive Committee, on June 15.
Longwall Associates congratulated the winner of the Yamaha ATV, a longwall coordinator at an Alabama Mine.
