The mine was sealed on February 16 after a goaf fall generated a methane ignition. By sealing the mine, the atmosphere in the mine was gradually inertised and incapable of supporting combustion.
The company said probes indicated temperatures in the area were at ambient (63 degrees farenheit) levels. Video equipment lowered into the borehole to inspect the area showed it to be clear of fire or smoke.
The company would continue to maintain or improve its temporary airshaft seals, and intended to continue pumping inert, fire-fighting material into the mine through existing boreholes and airshafts. The company would also continue monitoring gas levels from various sampling stations around the mine, and continue drilling additional boreholes around the suspected fire zone.
