The event is scheduled for December 6 beginning at 9am at the agency’s fire ops training room in Aztec.
The primary purpose of the workshop is to provide mining operators of all types with information regarding state requirements for notification of certain types of accidents to the state mine inspector.
The workshop will discuss New Mexico laws and regulations that relate to notification, the 12 types of accidents that meet the requirements for notification, and policy documents from the state Mining Safety Board that help define accidents.
Other topics of discussion include possible consequences if notification requirements are not met, the importance of operators maintaining an Emergency Operations Plan and the value of exercising the plan.
The workshop leader will be state mine inspector Terence Foreback.
New Mexico state mining law requires the same accident notification as federal 30 CFR Part 50 outlines, except that state law requires notification within 30 minutes instead of the US Mine Safety and Health Administration’s 15 minutes.
