State officials have released a statement saying the miners became trapped after a section of roof collapsed at the D and F mine in Schuykill County, Pennsylvania.

They said they found violations of mine roof regulations at the D and F mine in the past, but they were always immediately rectified.

The miners were rescued by their co-workers and transported to hospital by helicopter.

Officials say that the injuries are not life-threatening.

Inspectors from the federal and state governments are investigating.
